Opthamologist won't prescribe anything else despite this medication not working after more then a year of use as directed. It is also expensive.

The drug is effective but a miniscule tube cost $200. Tobramycin and dexamethasone are both inexpensive drugs. There's no excuse for this.

Tobrex in ointment form is very easy to apply at home, and treatment does seem to take place. However, inflammation, redness, and pain, are side effects we experienced. I would suggest considering this before use.

2 1/2+ year old granddaughter had an inflamation on edge of eyelid (may have been a sty). Applied ointment with a clean Q-Tip on outside and lid edge. Problem went away after several days. Only frustration was doctor did not say how long to use the ointment and on-line info and prescription info from pharmacist did not specify how many days to use.

In theory this medication is good, but it is rather difficult to use on a three year old. It is too difficult to restrain a non-cooperative preschooler, hold his eye open & administer the ointment. Plus, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reason with the child not to wipe the ointment off.
