I have taken 225mg of this drug 3 times a day for 4 years. It has worked very well and although expensive is still much cheaper than Rythmol. The only side effect I noticed was constipation.

after 18 months on amiodarone for Long QT I was was changed to Propfenone by a new cardio. He says 18mnths is too long on amio but has prescribed only one 150mg propfeno a day. I'm 80. I have about five or six seriously rotten days a month. Nausea, dizzy, unbalanced, fatigued, confused Any advice? Oldie

I use Propafenone Oral on a "As Needed" basis, it stopped my A-fib within 30 minutes on the first and only time of taking it (300 mg Tabs). I keep some with me at all times,as the Dr calls it "The Pocket Pill". It works for me.

I would never use this again. Used it for three months, was reluctant to take it due to the nasty side effects and was told they only pertain to the elderly, took it for two months, suffered cardiac arrest from a long QT time it gave me. This was verified by the heart hospital, would never ever take it again. Woke up out of a coma a week and a half later and lucky to be alive!

I use this medication for , what the cardiologist calls, the pill in the pocket. I take it as needed when in A-Fib. Within about 1 to 2 hours, my heart rythmm is back to normal. It does leave a metallic taste for about 24 hrs. Sure beats going to the ER to get cardioverted.

Have suffered from AF for 3+ years. Started with Rythmol twice per day, but began taking generic after a year with no difference in effectiveness. I suffer 1-2 episodes per year since taking the drug, but have suffered some weight gain and tiredness. Small price to pay for being nearly episode free. Current Dose Propafenone HSL SR 325 once per day at bedtime.

I have been taking propafenone 225 mg. three times a day for nine years successfully. I had an adverse reaction six years ago while I was on chemotherapy resulting in a rapid heartbeat of between 90 - 100 per minute. I also experienced a burning sensation in my arms and legs after taking cough medicine (dextromethorphan) but it only lasted for an hour or two so I discontinued the cough medicine.

Have taken this drug at 600mg/day doses for 15years, have used it interchangeable with rythmol when it was not available. Not perfect, and have added bisoprolol, still have apx 8 episodes per year. Ablation has not worked for me.

All in all this works for me. My main problem with it is fatigue. I take it three times again and the one in the afternoon is the one that causes the fatigue. That seems to be the only side effect besides weight gain which I hate.

Over time my number of a-fib episodes have decreased. In March a pacemaker was installed because my heart was stopping. I had hoped the combination would stop the a-fib totally but that has not happened yet but I have more good days than bad now. Drug is very expensive and makes me sleepy and tired.

I am experiencing every side effect of this drug. It was prescribed for fast heart rate(195) but has made me fatigued, dizzy, severe headaches and low energy levels.
