I was prescribed Xifaxan 550mg after being diagnosed with sibo. Have taken it for 10 of the 14 days and stopped due to excessive diarrhea, and a bad fever blister that developed on upper lip. Will discuss this with my GI when I visit in a month for the follow-up. I prefer to have the sibo symptoms over the IBS symptoms, and not take the meds. Has anyone taken this for preop colon surgery? My doctor has Put me on it for three days before surgery one pill a day. My colon immediately bloated up. I'm glad it is only for three days.

I just started Xifaxan yesterday. Sweaty all night,mould not sleep. Sicker this morning with cramps. Bloating, terrible dry mouth and thriat and now nausea. Took Alprazolam, Simithecone with Mylanta liquid, am no better. Took the first pill today anyway. Just getting worse. Anyone else had this happen? Husband won't take me to the ER again

I must be the only person that HATES this drug. My dr put me on it because he said I had bacteria from my liver. Gave me 60 550mg to take 2 X aday. I took 1 the first day because of the time I got them.In total I took 6 pills in 3 days. Like to have killed me. Had severe diarrhea.It was so bad If I even moved. This drug has proven to be my miracle. I'd always run towards having hard stools most of my life,at times getting impacted. This changed, however, the June before last, in 2011. My stools started being occasionally bloody, always very loose, with much mucous. I'd even lost close to 50 lbs in about 15 months. Loving the weight loss but knowing it wasn't normal or healthy.
