My story...wow. I could write a novel. Well, to summarize. I began antidepressants at the age of 13. By age 24, I had my first bout with MDD and was hospitalized for suicidal ideations. Two years later, another episode. This time, with 24/7 thoughts of SI. Except this time, I was done being the guinea pig of cocktails of different prescription combinations. There was absolutely nothing, nothing le...

This drug Deplin) almost killed me twice! The first time I took it I experience a horrible manic/suicidale reaction that lasted about 24 hours. I stopped the drug. When I told my Dr. he actually laughed at me and said Vit, C can'tvdo that! The 2nd time I took it I suffer from 4 horrific days of mania. My husband had to hide all of the drugs in the house and I had 3 hour screaming rant accusing my h...

My 13 year old son has struggled with a severe mood disorder and ADHD since he was 4. He has been on several different stimulant meds and non-stimulant meds plus sleeping meds at night. Most worked for a while then suddenly stopped. The next step was bi-polar meds. His physician was reluctant to prescribe these types of meds to a teen and tried DNA test (genesight) to determine the best choices. The test revealed a gene mutation which leaves him without the needed enzyme to absorb folic acid. He prescribed Deplin and wow what a different. He has been completely off all meds for 3 months and is a delight to be around. Yes, in my sons case, it works very well.Read More Read Less

So about 6 months ago I started using birth control for the first time and that, plus already having anxiety and occasional depression, sent me spiraling. I KNEW something was wrong but I just couldn’t put my finger on it. I have taken lexapro for years and have been taking more than normal this past year. I never knew that having the double MTHFR gene mutation meant anything, but I was desperate to try anything at all that would help. I was exhausted (I’m narcoleptic but had been more tired than normal), couldn’t concentrate, was crying daily, and was putting a strain on my relationship. My mom suggested Deplin and a B-12 shot and when I say I felt better the NEXT day, I felt brand new. I haven’t felt this good in a long time and have been taking deplin for a little over a month. My anxiety and depression is significantly better, I’m not longer crying constantly (haven’t in weeks), I have more energy, and overall am so much happier. If you’re anything like me you should at least give it a try! I’m so grateful for this product because I actually feel normal again and I’m happy. My friends and family have noticed a difference and it truly brings tears to my eyes because I’m so thankful to finally feel like me again!Read More Read Less

I took Deplin during a previous depressive episode but in a much smaller dose than 15 mg. I cannot say if the Deplin helped at that time. During my current episode, I was taking 15 mg of Deplin for 3 months. I was having unbearable anxiety and began looking up side effects for my meds and for Deplin. Deplin can cause severe anxiety. I stopped taking it and within 1 day, I felt a tremendous reduction in the anxiety. There is an article called ‘Anxiety Nutrition Solutions’ by Trudy Scott and Benjamin Lynch. He explains the different reactions people can have to Deplin. If you’re having severe anxiety read the article! Read More Read Less

I have found this to be the most effective medication I have taken. I was on traditional anti depressants and mood stabilizers for 20 years I have been on this for the last 3 years and have never felt better and more able to deal with sadness and anxiety as it comes up.

This medication has made my stomach blow up to pregnancy size. It is incredibly uncomfortable I cannot eat because my stomach expands even more and it physically hurts. I am disappointed because I was hoping it would help with my depression.

I used levomefolate to alleviate my Schizoaffective Disorder symptoms. It worked very well for one year with no side effects. Now, I am having migraines and exhaustion, but I am not 100% sure if it is from the levomefolate.

used in conjunction with other antidepressants and it has helped enormously. Felt calmer, happier and am thrilled to realize that the woman singing along w the radio is me. Only downside is price which, to me, seems ridiculously high and it not covered by insurance. You can get from drug manufacturer for $58/month which is high but about 1/3 of what you will pay elsewhere. For me, it's worth it though I wish it was more affordable.

The methylfolate, which is this "medicinal food" was very effective for my depression. I have the MTFR mutation, and can't turn folate into methylfolate (or activate folate as the pharmaceutical company says). Methylfolate is available in Health food stores for a lot less, and combined with niacin and B12 to make it easier to absorb.

I have struggled with depression almost all my life and have been on Zoloft for more than 20 years. I recently told my doctor that in addition to being overwhelmed with devastating family health issues, I had been becoming more and more fearful of losing my career because I couldn't seem to remember even the simplest of tasks. I was literally losing my mind!!!! He prescribed DEPLIN. I've been on it for roughly four months. SUCCESS!! My memory and mind is as sharp as it's ever been. Thank God for DEPLIN. Additionally, my overall mood has improved and I have a calm outlook on life and now take everything in stride. It's been years since I've been able to just "go with the flow". I FEEL LIKE A NEW PERSON. THANK YOU, DEPLIN!!Read More Read Less

I was given this vitamin for mood and low energy as I have schizoaffective disorder. After about 7 days of taking it did raise my mood and energy level, but I experienced severe side effects. I experienced sudden exhaustion, anxiety, stress, mania, and mild psychoses. I suspect that the vitamin interacted with my other meds. After two weeks of stopping I am still not feeling right. I would suggest getting blood work before starting this vitamin.

This is not folic acid. It's mainly people with the MTHFR genetic mutation who can't metabolize folic acid. Certain web sites need to pull there head out.

was on 15mg for 3 months and went off for 4 days to see if it was working. Well it seemed to really make a big difference in energy level and depression when I went off it for just 4 days, so back on it now and will stay on it. Taking with 10 to 15 mg Lexapro and some other supplements. Too expensive - currently getting samples, but cheapest price I think is around 60 per month. That's outrageous , but as others said if it works its worth it. RAndy

My doctor treats his patients holistically, and often prescribes vitamins, supplements and lifestyle changes along with medications. He prescribed Deplin to help me with depression after I tried several antidepressants that helped - but with unacceptable side effects. Deplin worked with no side effects! I have more energy, my mood is better, and I'm able to handle stress without getting overwhelmed. Unfortunately, my prescription plan recently stopped covering it, so I'm switching to Brand Direct to fill my Rx. I'm not stopping something that works just because some bureaucrat made a decision without an MD after his name. I trust my doctor's decisions, not some company's greed.Read More Read Less

Deplin was too much for me. Took 3 days and had to stop bc of terrible adrenaline rushes that immediately caused anxiety and panic. I was given this bc gene testing revealed MTHFR gene mutations & id presented with breakthrough anxiety and some depression and derealization despite being on 25mg Lamictal and 10mg Viibryd. I've since read l-methyl folate should be slowly titred up from lower doses as 15mg can be like shooting a mosquito with a shotgun- how it felt for me! My psych is good but I feel many Dr.'s don't know how to properly treat or what to do for ppl like me who had bad side effects. I never had blood tests to determine if I had deficiencies and that doesn't sit right with me now. Was on it for 3 days and stopped. 5 days later I'm still having residual issues. I had the GeneSight test done to see how my body metabolizes anti depressants and to check my Folic acid level which was low. I have been on Deplin for about 2 weeks now and think I might be able to tell a little difference. I have had an upset stomach for days and don't know if it's the Deplin or something else. Doc said it would take 3-4 weeks to obtain full effects so I have high hopes. It is very expensive but if you go to Brand Direct it is more reasonable. I'm going to stick with it for at least a month to see if I feel better.Read More Read Less

After 26 years of dealing with antidepressant resistant depression and anxiety, I was given a DNA test and found that I have a compound heterozygous MTHFR gene mutation. This is why medication has not worked in the past. After only about a week on Deplin 15mg, I feel utterly reborn. Very little anxiety, depression, irritability, etc., and more energy. It has been a miracle for me.

I feel awesome when taking Deplin. I no longer require medicine for depression. After my doctor did extensive blood work and found I retain no Folic Acid and require Deplin to feel normal. The cost is aweful $180 bottle I hope FDA approves soon. Better than nerve pills..I don't get it!
