I've been on Megace for approx 7 months to increase my appetite & help me gain weight. I started the medication due to a sharp decrease in appetite/lack of interest in eating, weightloss/inabilty to maintain weight which resulted in FFT (failure to thrive), malnutrtion, etc. My situation is unique in that my weight loss/lack of appetite is complicated by sensory processing issues, which already ma...

My husband is recovering from esophogeal cancer. He had chemo and radiation at the same time for 34 days straight, then the surgery. Due to altered tastes (salty or burnt) he's been losing weight steadily and went all the way to 119 lbs. His oncologist doubled his Megace and Ensure, but it makes him dizzy to the point of falling. So far, I'm not happy with results because he continues to lose w...

I have always been underweight my entire life, genetics and high metabolism. Nothing wrong with me health wise. I tried everything to pack on weight and nothing. I’m 38- 5’6” and weighed in at 105lbs. I have had 2 kids (9 and 12) After 6 weeks on this medication, I have consistently gained 13 lbs so far. My pant size went from a 0 to a 4 (yay). My appetite changed within the first week or so. Food is so much more enjoyable and I can eat a lot more. Although I have gained some in the last place I wanted, the stomach- I look and feel much healthier. I will probably start working out some to tone up after putting on a few more pounds and likely not eat as much junky food as I eat everything right now that my heart desires and some of that isn’t the best for me. Side effects were minimal- no period since starting the meds, heartburn and some more flatulence (due to eating a lot more) and I do wake up thru the night several times and more frequent urination. I opt to take the liquid oral meds before bed because it did make me drowsy for a bit after taking. I take 5 ML daily at bedtime or the oral suspension (625 mg). I do not carry health insurance and the last refill for a month cost me about $220 with some discounts at CVS. I hope this detailed review helps someone like me. I will post another review after some more time! This medication is definitely awesome for weight gain when nothing else works! Read More Read Less

I suffer from IBS type symptoms from a surgery, so I have lost a significant amount of weight and my appetite is pretty much ruined. My doctor prescribed me liquid Megace to up my appetite. The first day I took it I felt completely fine. The second day I started to get incredibly dizzy after about 20 minutes. (AWFUL, like I just woke up from anesthesia). I was very panicked but also confused, I remember going to tell my mom that I was incredibly dizzy but then I don’t remember much of anything for like 2 hours after the fact. All I remember is feeling insanely depressed. Super weird reaction and I immediately stopped taking it.Read More Read Less

My husband lost a lot of weight quickly and after many tests, they had no clue why. He has been on Megase 40 MG/ML suspension, 3 tsp. per day and has gained 25 pounds in a month ! I really thought I was going to lose him to malnutrition, but he's back !

My doctor tried me on this medication for 30 days due to severe nausea/vomitting and weight loss. During this time I gained 14lbs and it not only greatly increased my appetite, it also, for whatever reason, greatly decreased the instances of vomiting. It does not taste good, but is very easy to use and well worth it to me.

I was prescribed Megace due not being able to diagnose my disease and was feeling as if I was about to die. I was given 3 snoreplasty injections in Aug and Sept of '04. Three weeks or less after the second injection, I completly lost my appitite and could not make myself eat and now realize I was suffering from adrenal insufficcency. It took until March of '07 to get the correct diagnosis at UAMS in Little Rock, AR. I was diagnosed with adrenal insufficency due to Megace. They did not listen to me when I told them that I had suffered the symptoms of ADI for 4 months before I was given the Megace. There is no doube in my mind that I had not been the Meagace I would have died. It is my wish that someone would listen to me and check in the Snoreplasty injections, that are also used to get rid of spider veins in the legs, and make sure it is a safe procedure as I read that it is used on our soldiers for snoring problems. It is my expreience that a cpap machine is a much safer and workable treatment for snoring problems and will leave a patient with a much better quality of life to live. I have spent the last 7 plus years merely exsisting my live instead of being able to enjoy the so called golden years that I did look so forward too. Read More Read Less

I bought some soup that is made in Burlington, KY called Comfort Care Foods and he seems to like it but still tastes salty to him. He has other issues like retching but we're trying to get to the bottom of that at this time. It's possible that he has a narrowing somewhere in his digestive tract. But the Megace is NOT helping him now and I wondered, just how long one must be on it, to get any benefit?Read More Read Less

I've been on Megace for approx 7 months to increase my appetite & help me gain weight. I started the medication due to a sharp decrease in appetite/lack of interest in eating, weightloss/inabilty to maintain weight which resulted in FFT (failure to thrive), malnutrtion, etc. My situation is unique in that my weight loss/lack of appetite is complicated by sensory processing issues, which already make eating a challenge. After occupational therapy alone was not helping and I was loosing rather than gaining, I started the Megace. In the first 5 months I was on it, it dramatically increased my appetite, I gained almost 20 lbs--- went from FTT, in the malnutrtion stage, being constantly sick to a much healthier, happier, getting sick much less often and having a lot more energy. I had a few set backs recently, but hope to get to my goal weight (where I can get off it) soon. The things I dislike about is the consistency & flavor--its a lemon-lime flavored liquid with the consistency similiar to Pepto Bismal. Just being able to take it proved to be challenging due to my sensory issues; but mixing it with juice helped a lot. I also really dislike the effect it has had on my "cycle"--making things just unpredicatble. Overall though, Megace has been a true life savor and helped me gain and maintain weight that my body really needed.Read More Read Less
