In an annual eye exam, my eye doctor was concerned with the high eye pressure readings (30). She gave me the most current recommended drug to reduce eye pressure but they did not work. In addition my insurance costs would be $50 for every refill (30 days). I talked to my pharmacist and he recommended Timolo maleate as a generic option. Not only has this drug reduced my eye pressure by half (15), i...

I was told to use this drug along with Latanoprost by my glaucoma specialist 9 years ago. At that time not only timolol did not lower IOP, but also made my eyes extremely red and painful about 30 minutes.
This drug still make my eyes red and painful and no effect for lowering IOP. Dr. says “this stops spiking IOP”
If my IOP goes higher than 25, I understand his theory, but my IOP never got over 20 and I have NTG.

I was put on this medication to keep my pressure down in this eye due to my thin bleb was slightly leaking to avoid having my bleb repaired a second time. I have had two issues with this medication first that it cause my heart to have irregular heartbeat and second afib attack after use. I am on an afib medication to keep me in regular normal sinus rhythm, but at times it override my medication.

My doctor prescribed Timolol to use in the mornings in conjunction with my nightly drops to further reduce my eye pressure. After the first use of Timolol, my eyelids and tissue above my eyes reddened and swelled to the point of pain and discomfort. I will not say my eyes swelled shut, but pretty darn close. A day and a half has gone by, and the swelling has slightly reduced, but still is very sore and noticeable.
I know that people can have different responses to prescription drugs, so I do not want to state that Timolol is ineffective. However, patients should be aware of the possibility of side effects and possible steps to take if swelling occurs. Currently, all I can do is wait and hope the swelling continues to dissipate. Obviously, I experienced an allergic reaction, but that does not mean all potential patients will have the same reaction. Just be aware that side effects might be more common than reported. Before starting the new eye drop, I would suggest asking your doctor for potential remedies to any side effects if they should occur. Read More Read Less

Was Prescribed this med and was fine for the first two weeks after that my eyes were always warm with and occasional pain. That was not the worst of the symptoms I had gotten severe headaches that I thought they were migraines but it was a reaction from the medication.

I have open angle glaucoma & since taking Timolol for a few years I have found my hair coming out & dizziness, I kept telling the eye consultant of this but don’t think they really take in what I am saying so I have now decided to stop the Timolol & stick to Latanoprost & I also take Ginkgo Bilbo’s 1 capsule with dinner to see if that helps. It’s trial & error.

This drug caused my heart rate to drop 10 points.. thankful that I have monitored blood pressure and heart rate for years so the charting was helpful in relating this drop in heart rate to the eye drops..

After just 14 days on this eye drop combined with latanoprost, I constantly felt cold, tired, and wanted to cry. I was impotent. I had insomnia and sleep disrupted by anxious dreams. I started preferring being blind than living like this. My eye pressure did plunge 75% to single digits, but I was miserable. These side affects lessened and disappeared over 4 weeks following stopping the timolol.

Timilol is applied at bedtime and very soon hardens ar the base of my lashes with glue-like consistency. I attempt to soften this cement with tissues and warm water, but by morning i have to separate my lashes with difficulty. Why cant they do something about it?

I have been taking this medication along with xalatan since 2004, when I was diagnosed at age 26. I have wondered from time to time if this medication has contributed to bouts of depression along with heart palpatation issues.
