This drug has worked wonders on my headaches that have caused me to be hospitalized on occasion. But some of the side effects have been difficult. I was feeling almost like I had motion sickness on a couple of occasions, and have had periods of nasty moods that came from nowhere. At least I can function now though and have found out where it was coming from so that I don't have to beat myself up ...

I have taken this medication for over 20 years. I have never become addicted to it. As long as I take it when my migraines first come on then I can take 1 capsule and it is very effective. If I cannot take one right away then I take one followed by another 30 minutes later and usually my migraine will disappear or subside tremendously where I can function in my classroom with my students. I have tried every migraine medicine out there and new ones as they have come out and Butalbital w/codeine is the only thing that works for me. It is truly my miracle pill. Read More Read Less

I was hit by a car in 1970 and suffered a small skull fracture which resulted in frequent headaches. They did not go Migraine until some years later after a botched spinal tap. I was prescribed Fiorinal with codiene during one hospital episode and it worked quickly and effectively to relieve the pain. I will also wrap my head in ice packs which relieves the pounding and helps me relax. I have also been prescribed Nortriptyline 25mg at bedtime and that helps prevent the migraines from re-occurring as often. I now have 1-2 episodes during a 3 month time instead of 1-2 episodes a week. Fiorinal helps during these episodes. Ask your Dr. about Nortriptyline as well. My Dr. also agrees with the ice packs. He said it helps constrict the blood flow that is causing the pounding pain.Read More Read Less

AFTER TRYING SEVERAL DIFFERENT MIGRAINE MEDICATIONS, SOME OF WHICH INCLUDED ANTI-SEIZURE MEDS AND ANTI-DEPRESSANTS, BUTALBITAL WITH CODEINE HAS BEEN THE ABSOLUTE BEST WHEN IT COMES TO MIGRAINE WITH TENSION. IT CAN MAKE YOU A LITTLE SLEEPY AND DEPENDENCE IS A CONCERN, BUT, IT KEEPS ME ABLE TO WORK, BE A FUNCTIONING MOM, WIFE, AND NURSE, AND KEEPS ME OUT OF THE EMERGENCY ROOM!

I get horrible headaches. Bad enough that I have to be hospitalized for them on occasion. This is one of the very few drugs out there that has made any difference on my headache pain scale. Be careful with them though. It doesn't take long to become addicted to them if you take them on a regular basis.
