There are two strengths of the analgesic balm that I have had experience with: (a) menthol 1% menthol salicylate 15% (b) menthol 10% menthol salicylate 15%. The difference between the two balms (a and b) is that more comfort follows using b, i.e., menthol 10% menthol salicylate 15%. However, the most comfort I experienced by brand is Zostrix containing capsaicin 0.075%.

I have arthritis in my lower back. Menthol 6%, methyl salicylate 14% is what I have been using. It works better & longer than any heating pad and/or asprin.
