I've been prescribed almost 1,000mg of B-vitamin complex plus folic acid in one pill. This is unusually high b/c I tested homozygous for MTHFR gene. But I'm relieved ever since I started taking it. Before I had unexplained depression, mood swings, fatigue, low energy and confusion but were gone within one week of taking this med.

`Folgard caused me to be very nauseated even when taken on a full stomach...called the Dr..this apparently is not a usual side effect. Advised to stop for a week....I did and nausea and reflux all gone. I feel much better...if my Dr agrees will just stick withB12 injections I get monthly.

The Folgard RX 2.2 has 2.2mg Folic Acid as the name implies. Very small tablet, very easy to take.

Nutrition Action cites recent literature associating high doses of folic acid with increased colon cancer risk. It's anyone's guess as to how much folic acid is in folgard rx2.2. The containers, pharmacy brochures and web sites don't say. I am now troubled by the fact that I could be wildly overdosing myself, especially since the evidence connecting homosysteine levels and heart health is not spectactularly strong. A multivitamin is probably enough. I am off this medication as of now.
