In 1986, Nader suffered from Bell’s palsy, causing paralysis on the left side of his face. The condition lasted for months.
He smoked in college and at law school, but quit cold turkey.
His family has a history of cancer. His brother, Shafeek, died of prostate cancer in 1986. That helped him decide to adopt a mostly vegetarian diet.
