Elizabeth Hanes, BSN, RN

Elizabeth Hanes, BSN, RN, is known as “the nurse who knows content.” An award-winning content writer and reporter, Hanes covers a broad range of consumer health topics. She has worked with major health care brands that include Anthem, Aetna, Dignity Health, and PBS’ NextAvenue.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing degree in 1999, Hanes returned to college for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. As an RN, she cared for patients in the perioperative setting at a Level I Trauma Center and, later, served as the primary clinic nurse in a solo-physician plastic surgery practice affiliated with a small medical group. Her clinical experience focused on preoperative instruction, circulating in the operating room, and post-anesthesia care. She also was a certified aesthetics injector.

In 2011, Hanes transitioned to full-time freelance writing because she wanted to use her nursing knowledge to help millions health care consumers each day, instead of only the half-dozen or so her clinical career allowed. She says the best thing about her job is authoring empathetic, trustworthy content that readers can rely on.

Because Hanes loves her nurse-writer career so much, in 2014 she founded RN2writer, a coaching and instructional program that helps other nurses realize their dream of becoming a professional writer. Many nurses have successfully transitioned into freelance writing careers under Hanes’s guidance.

When she’s not producing high-caliber health and wellness content, you can find Hanes hanging out on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

Hanes resides in Albuquerque, NM, where she watches spectacular sunsets from the terrace with her Australian shepherd mix, Mitzi. She has never met Walter White or needed Saul Goodman.
