Some preventive care immunizations covered by most plans under the Affordable Care Act (without cost sharing):

  • Hepatitis A (children 12 months and older, travelers, and others at high risk)
  • Hepatitis B (infants, children and adults at high risk)
  • Herpes zoster (60 and older)
  • Human papillomavirus or HPV (11 or 12-26 years old)
  • Influenza (flu shot) (yearly, starting at 6 months and up)
  • Measles, mumps, rubella (starting at 12 months)
  • Meningococcal (11-18 years old, high-risk younger children and adults)
  • Pneumococcal (starting at 2 months)
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (starting at 2 months)
  • Varicella (starting at 12 months)


Some tests that are covered by most plans under the Affordable Care Act (without cost sharing):

  • Breast cancer screening with mammography (every 1-2 years for women over 40)
  • BRCA test (breast cancer genetic test counseling for women over 18 who are at high risk for breast cancer)
  • Cervical cancer screening test (every 3 years for women 21-65 years old with Pap smear or every 5 years for women 30-65 years old with Pap smear and HPV testing)
  • Blood pressure screening test (all adults)
  • Cholesterol screening test (depending on age  and risk factors)
  • HIV screening test (sexually active adolescents and women)
  • Diabetes screening test (adults with high blood pressure)
  • Colorectal cancer screening test (adults over 50)
  • Osteoporosis screening test (women over 60 depending on risk factors)
  • Syphilis screening test (sexually active adults at high risk)
  • Gonorrhea screening test (sexually active adults ages 25 and younger at high risk)
  • Chlamydia screening test (sexually active adults and younger at high risk)
