At-a-Glance: Free Preventive Care, Birth to Age 2

Are They Really Free?

Most health insurance plans offer free preventive care. That means you don't have to pay a copay, coinsurance, or a deductible.

There is an exception. Plans that existed before March 2010, called grandfathered plans, don't have to cover these services for free.

If you don’t know if your plan is grandfathered, check your plan's summary of benefits or call the health insurance company. If your insurance is from an employer, ask your HR department.
