ACOs are a group of health care providers that work together with the goal of coordinating care. Their goal is to make sure each provider you see is up-to-date on what is going on with your health. For instance, every health expert you see knows what tests you’ve had and conditions you’ve been treated for. Payment to the providers in an ACO is linked to how well they perform in improving and maintaining your health and lowering healthcare costs.
If your doctor or hospital is part of an ACO, you can still see health care providers outside that ACO.
