Eligibility refers to whether or not you've met the requirements necessary to qualify for something. For instance, to get insurance, you must meet some standards. They are set by the plan or program helping to pay for your care.
- Insurance from your employer: To be eligible, you often need to work full time
- Medicaid: To be eligible, your income must not be higher than a certain amount based on how many people are in your family
- Medicare: To be eligible, you must be disabled or age 65 or older
Health care reform has lowered the requirements to get private insurance and Medicaid. More people are now eligible for affordable health coverage.
