Lifetime limits

A lifetime limit is the total amount a health plan will pay for your care. If you reach your lifetime limit, you must pay for all of your care without any help from your health insurance. This will change in January 2014. After that date, health plans cannot put a lifetime limit on most covered benefits.

Note that health plans can still put a lifetime limit on care that isn’t on the list of essential benefits.
