Lifetime limits

A lifetime limit is the maximum amount a health plan will pay for your care. When that limit is reached, you must start paying out of pocket. An insurance plan that is not grandfathered (meaning a plan in place before the Affordable Care Act became law) can no longer impose lifetime limits on essential health benefits. However, plans can still place limits on specific services that are not part of those essential health benefits.
