Health Insurance & Affordable Care Act

Back to ACA Health Insurance Terms List

NCQAstands for National Committee for Quality Assurance. The NCQA is a private, non-profit organization focused on improving the quality of health care. NCQA provides accreditation to health plans that meet their rigorous standards. When you see the NCQA seal on a health plan's materials, you can be sure that the plan will provide a certain level of quality care.

NCQA gives several levels of accreditation status, like a report card for health plans:

  • Excellent
  • Commendable
  • Accredited
  • Provisional

You can use NCQA accreditation status to compare health plans. Each year NCQA provides a detailed list of all private health plans' ranking.
