Do Stop-Snoring Products Work?
Stop-snoring products may or may not work. The research for these products is elusive.
Question:
My husband snores terribly. He's had a sleep study done, and that particular night, he had a good night and didn't sleep that badly. They said he didn't have sleep apnea, but they did determine that he has a blockage in one of his nostrils, and something was wrong with his throat (I can't remember what it was though). My question is about products that I've seen on TV or on the Web, saying they can stop snoring. Do those sprays and masks help at all? I just today saw an ad for "Sleep Angel" -- a mask that is supposed to hold your jaw in the right position.
Answer:
I have never seen any research to show that any of the sprays work, meaning that they get rid of snoring all together. If you husband does not have apnea then you may want to bring the "Sleep Angel" to the attention of his sleep specialist. Snoring can come from several different parts of the throat, and closing the mouth may or may not help.
