Your loved one may be young at heart, but are her ears keeping up? Almost a third of 65 to 74-year-olds have hearing loss. These are possible signs.

Your loved one watches TV or listens to music with the volume cranked way up. He asks you to repeat what you say, or to speak loudly or slowly. She may also tell you uh huh, or nod her head a lot more often, as if to give you the impression her hearing is OK. She may become less social too, avoiding activities or gatherings she used to enjoy. She might also be less talkative and look lost during conversations, especially when there's background noise.

Tell your loved one what you've noticed. Encourage her to see her doctor. Let her know there are lots of options, including less visible hearing aids, if she has hearing loss.
