Ron Mitchell loves snapping photo memories, but worries his own memory isn't as photographic as it used to be.
Since I'm getting older, I notice my memory is not as good as used to be, so I'm just wondering what's going on with me.
To help figure that out, Ron's having his brain and memory checked out.
Grass. Arm. Butter. Pole. Shore. Uhhmm…
His evaluation includes brain function tests that reveal the state of his memory, and more.
Language, naming, judgment, planning. That really gives us a picture of, not only where people are having difficulty, but where they have preserved strengths.
To broaden the picture, a health history and physical are done, along with a brain imaging study.
Like a CAT scan or an MRI scan, and there we're looking for things like stroke or bleeding or bruising on the brain.
Though this testing captures a current snapshot of brain health, Doctor Sachs (sax) says it should be repeated in a year.
When we have two points in time and can see if there's been progression that provides us with an even more solid ground in which to make diagnoses.
Ron's evaluation found he's performing normally in comparison to others his age.
Stay independent is the name of the game. How can I take care of myself so somebody else doesn't have to?
It's a question he'll revisit in the years to come. For WebMD, I'm Sandee LaMotte.
