Years ago, a blood clot and stroke stole the use of both of Martina Seidman's (mar TEE nuh SIDE mannz) hands.
You take your hands for granted you know and it's like everything I do, it's like, oh I can't do that.
Even the most ordinary task, like applying lipstick, is a challenge.
I can't even open a lipstick holder to reapply or anything.
Now to ease her morning routine, Martina's turning to cosmetic tattooing.
Medical and cosmetical tattooing would be anything that's done on the face for enhancement or for a medical procedure to correct something.
This type of tattoo artistry is light years away from the more familiar body art.
Cosmetic art only goes to the second layer. When someone does body art, they go into the muscle and fat of the body. So when you try to do that on the face, the pigment goes too deep and it migrates.
The medical-grade pigments are also unique, and only contain iron and glycerin, which means the colors stay true.
When you use cosmetic, medical-grade pigment, the color that goes into the skin is the color that remains on the skin. It will fade and get lighter but it'll stay in the same color family.
Most cosmetic treatments require two or more procedures to complete, and the cost varies.
It depends on how much work needs to be done. It depends on how many treatments they need. The prices can go from $400 and up.
It's a unique, beautifying solution for women facing physical or time restrictions. For WebMD, I'm Sandee Lamotte.
