Athlete's foot is a fungal infection of the skin. Toe web (interdigital) type athlete's foot often begins with skin that seems moist and pale white. Itching, burning, and a slight odor are often noticeable. As the infection progresses, the skin between the toes becomes scaly, peels, and cracks.

Toe web infection, the most common type of athlete's foot, usually occurs between the fourth and fifth toes.
