Conditions with symptoms similar to lead poisoning
Because lead poisoning is common and the symptoms are vague, health professionals may consider testing blood lead levels when the conditions listed below do not have a clear-cut cause.
- Developmental delays and learning disabilities, especially in children
- Anemia, which can cause paleness, fatigue, and weakness
- Chronic abdominal pain or digestive disorders, such as gastroenteritis
- Mood disorders, such as depression
- Hypothyroidism, which can cause fatigue, memory problems, and depression
