Other antifungal medications for ringworm of the skin

Besides azoles and allylamines, several antifungal medicines that you apply to your skin (topical) are available to treat ringworm.

• Tolnaftate (Tinactin) is available without a prescription and comes in lotion, cream, gel, and spray forms. It requires twice-a-day application and is effective against most ringworm infections.
• Haloprogin (Halotex) is a prescription cream that kills a broad spectrum of fungi, including yeasts. You apply it twice a day.
• Ciclopirox (Loprox) is effective against fungi, yeast, and some bacteria. It is available in cream and liquid forms and should be used twice a day.
