The pelvis is a bony ring between the hips. It is made up of the sacrum in the back (posterior), the two hipbones (ilium and ischium) on the sides, and the pubis in the front. The pelvis connects to the spine at the sacrum and to the bones of the legs at the hip joints. The tailbone (coccyx) attaches to the lower tip of the sacrum. The female pelvis and hipbones are shaped and tilted a bit differently than the male pelvis and hipbones to support the female reproductive organs.
