If your child is uncomfortable because of a fever from
chickenpox, you can have the child:
Drink more water and juices. Children may enjoy
sucking on ice chips or Popsicles.
Take lukewarm sponge
baths.
Dress lightly and avoid wrapping up in warm blankets.
Take medication to reduce fever as
needed. Acetaminophen (Tylenol, Liquiprin, Tempra) or
ibuprofen (Advil) can be safely used to reduce fever from chickenpox. However,
it may prolong the illness by 1 or 2 days. Do not give aspirin
to anyone younger than 20 because of the risk of
Reye's syndrome.
