Intraocular (Eye) Melanoma - Medium and Large Size Choroidal Melanoma

For medium sized choroidal melanomas, treatment may be one of the following:

  1. Internal radiation therapy using small implants (plaques).
  2. External-beam radiation therapy.
  3. Surgery to remove the tumor and part of the iris or choroid (iridocyclectomy or choroidectomy).
  4. Internal radiation therapy followed by laser therapy (coagulation or thermotherapy).
  5. Surgery to remove the eye (enucleation).

For large choroidal melanomas, treatment may be one of the following:

  1. External-beam radiation therapy followed by enucleation.
  2. Enucleation.
