Who is affected by pilonidal disease?

Pilonidal disease is more common in:

  • Men. Pilonidal cysts are 3 times more likely to develop in men than in women.
  • Young adults. Pilonidal cysts are uncommon in children and in adults older than 45.
  • A person with heavy growth of body hair.
  • An overweight man.
