Feels like something is shooting through my heel.
Tammy Sanders works long hours at two jobs. And her feet are feeling the pain. It's no question what she looks for in a proper shoe.
For the style. Mm, hmm…
Sound familiar? Many of us sacrifice comfort for style. But it's not the only cause of foot problems. Being overweight, injury, genetics, and just plain old aging can bring on changes in our feet.
Not only maybe a small loss in arch height, but also gradual widening of the foot can also be seen through the years.
Doctor James Thomas says, as we age, the tendon that keeps our arch in place stretches. And sometimes the arch drops enough to cause flat feet and pain.
It will be right in the area where this tendon is starting to stretch and the pain will probably come down into the instep area and into the inside of the arch also.
Flat feet can cause shin splints and Plantar Fasciitis (PLAN-ter FASH-ee-I-tis), a painful heel condition. Wondering if your arches are falling? Check your footprints after a shower.
You like to see a good imprint on the heel, a good imprint on the forefoot.
And there should be a gap. An entire footprint means flat feet. Or check the backs of your shoes. If the heel leans one way or another, you have arch issues. If there's pain, see your doctor.
Especially if it's something that lasts, does not go away.
Shoe inserts can often alleviate symptoms. But, some patients may require surgery. It's best to take steps now to avoid problems. For WebMD, I'm Sandee Lamotte.
