Dolce and Gabanna, Jimmy Choo...
Erica Denhartog has quite a collection of sexy designer shoes.
I like all kinds of shoes, especially the higher the heel the better because they make your legs look so slim.
After years of walking in pumped up platforms, Erica is developing hammer toes and suffers from plantar fasciitis.
It was painful in my arch, really painful in my arch and in my heels.
Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the band of tissue that connects the ball of the foot to the heel.
Due to mechanics, pretend my hand is that plantar fascia, when the foot steps down, the heel bone swings out like this. That allows your arch to collapse in.
The right shoes will keep that arch from collapsing and putting stress on the area. For Erica, that means it's time to shop for new shoes.
I had to do what he told me to do. And he told me not to wear my nice shoes anymore and I didn't like that.
The bulk of what women think is cute is structurally unsound.
Structurally sound shoes have three traits. A closed heel. That means no sandals or flip flops. Plenty of room in the toes. The shoe should also bend in the toe, not in the arch.
If you can fold a shoe in half, there's no shank running down the center of that shoe giving it stability.
It may not be something women like Erica want to hear, but how a shoe feels is more important than it looks.
Women think that their feet are supposed to hurt because their mother said that and their grandmother said that. And they aren't supposed to hurt.
For Erica, that means changing the way she thinks about what makes a shoe sexy. For WebMD, I'm Sandee LaMotte.
