Michael Seale is about to eliminate 20 years worth of chronic back pain. The culprit -- a bulging, herniated disk that's putting painful pressure on his nerves. Michael's not used to playing patient – he's a doctor. But the constant pain has affected his practice.
I couldn't work. I couldn't really stand or sit or move around.
He's decided to skip traditional back surgery, opting for a new, minimally invasive procedure using a probe called the Dekompressor.
It's a suction device that has an auger on the end and the auger or a cutting device, cuts into the disk and as the disk is being cut, the suction device pulls the abnormal disk out.
Doctor Jones uses x-ray imaging to maneuver the probe to the exact location of the disk. Michael has a local anesthetic, but stays awake during the procedure. This helps Doctor Jones know if he's near a nerve.
Reach out with both hands
It's hard to believe, but this is Michael just 30 minutes after his procedure. Long term results can be just as impressive. Rachel Rosenbaum had the treatment over a year ago.
Now, I can bend over and do this business and I can you know, reach into my car and get my groceries out without going, 'Oh my God, this is so painful.'
Driving and so many other aspects of Rachel and Michael's lives are better, now that they're living pain free. For WebMD, I'm Sandee LaMotte.
