Visits to the child psychiatrist aren't something the Chadwick family dreads. In fact, their ADHD check-ups are pretty fun.
We could go in there feeling like, Oh my gosh, the weight of the world on us, and we always walk out with a smile on our face and we always laugh.
That positive vibe is courtesy of Doctor Robin Altman, who believes laughter can help ease some serious situations.
I find that the parents who are able to laugh at things and have, just see things with a bit of humor are much more able to be effective in helping their child.
Parents are key participants in the treatment process, so Doctor Altman tries to show there's light at the end of the tunnel.
We're going to treat it. They'll have a nice life. You know, they'll be nagging me about their college applications soon.
Her bright outlook spurred her to write a book for families navigating the world of child psychiatry.
I just didn't find anything that I'd want to read, and so, so that's why I wrote it, to be a like, to sort of be a funny way of putting forth information and also to show that none of us are perfect.
And even if we think our kid's perfect, Doctor Altman has news for us.
Every kid has some schtick about them, and you know, let's not catastrophize everything.
For Becky's boys, the doctor's treatment brought peace to their home
The absolute best thing we ever did for our kids was get them the help that they needed.
