Are there other treatments besides alarms?
There are a lot of other techniques that people try, but they are benign. And I always recommend to parents, well go ahead and try it, although frankly, they usually don't do the trick. No fluids after supper, make sure you pee before you go to bed. Um, somewhat more effective sometimes is waking the child up, so if you know they are going to pee 3 hours after they go to sleep, wake 'em up at 2 and ½ hours and have them go pee. Um, and sometimes, periodic waking through the night with alarms or by the parents can change the sleep pattern or whatever and help. It's a lot of work, but it can be tried also. Some people try to increase the bladder capacity to see if that will help. And what you do with a child is tell them when they have to pee, okay, now you've got to hold it, and you get an egg timer, and you have to hold it for a minute, and then hold it for 2 more minutes, and then 3, and then have them pee, and see how much they peed so that they increase their bladder capacity during the day and they can hold it much longer. And, occasionally that helps kids with nighttime enuresis and people try that too. Since there is no down side or side effects to these things, people try it. I have to say I don't think they are usually all that effective, but it may be worth a try in a motivated family.
