WebMD offers physicians the ability to promote their practices in the directory by paying WebMD a fee for a Premium Physician Listing. The Premium Physician Listing includes a Featured Listing as well as the ability to include a photo, personal physician statement, and link to their practice website on their physician Profile page.
A Featured Listing replaces a physician's basic listing in the search results. Featured Listings are always displayed before non-featured listings in the physician search results. Featured Listings follow the same sorting rules of the rest of the listings. For example, if the search results are sorting by distance, all of the Featured Listings will first display from nearest to farthest and then the non-featured listings will display from nearest to farthest.
Why would physicians do this? Online directory search results are often several pages long and users may not view beyond the first two pages of results before choosing a physician. A Featured Listing gives the physician a way to increase the chance that his or her physician listing will be seen and selected. In addition, Featured Listings help the listing stand out with shading, bolding, and the first few words of their personalized physician statement (the rest of the physician statement is continued on his or her Profile page).
WebMD offers physicians the ability to promote their practices in the directory by paying WebMD a fee for a Premium Physician Listing. As part of this package, the physician receives a Featured Listing (discussed above) as well as an option to include their photo, a link to their website, and a Physician Statement on their Profile page. The Physician Statement allows the physician to describe their clinical focus, procedures they perform, or other aspects of their practice they think is important to highlight. This benefits physicians as they can attract patients who seek their expertise and it benefits users of the directory as it helps them make more informed decisions when selecting a physician.
The WebMD Physician Directory is compiled by The Little Blue Book™, a WebMD company. The award-winning Little Blue Book is a printed physician directory that has been used by physicians themselves for over 18 years to contact other doctors. It is well-known in the medical industry for its accurate, up-to-date physician information. The data on each physician that WebMD presents is confirmed with each physician's office twice a year. While addresses and phone numbers and specialties tend to stay the same, some practice information can change quickly. For example, a physician may join or leave the practice or the practice may start accepting a new health insurance. In general, the data in this directory is generally reliable but to be 100% sure, always contact that doctor's office.

We are constantly upgrading the physician directory and plan to add additional information in the future.
If there is a particular feature or type of information you would like us to include, please feel free to send it to us via email at FindAPhysician@webmd.net.
Locate the physician in the directory by entering the proper information on the directory home page and selecting Get Results button. Once you have located the physician's listing in the Results page, choose the View Profile & Phone link to open his or her Profile page. You will find the Map & Directions link at the top of the Profile page underneath the address. If the physician has more than one practice, you will find them in the Practice Information area of the Profile page. Each office will have a Map & Directions link next to it. Once on the Map & Directions page, you can select the Directions button to get directions.
The directory contains profiles of the over 400,000 clinically active physicians in the USA.
A search for a physician always starts on the directory's home page at www.Doctor.WebMD.com.
A search has two simple steps:
Step 1: Enter the area you want to search. We recommend
that you enter a Zip Code to narrow your search. You can also enter a City and State combination or just the State name
or abbreviation. WebMD will search within a 25 mile radius for your physician unless you search the whole state (you can
expand this radius using 'More Search Options' discussed below).
Step 2: Enter the physician's Last Name or the kind of Specialist you want. You can enter the whole Last Name or just the first few letters of it. If you do not know the name of your physician, choose a Specialist from the radio buttons or drop-down menu. Select the Get Results button.
You will then arrive at the 'Results' page with all the physicians that match your search criteria. If you search by City or Zip Code, your results will automatically sort by distance, the closest physician being first. (If you search by State Only, your results will be automatically sort alphabetically by Last Name. This is discussed under 'More Search Options' below.) You can page through the results using the Previous and Next links in the top or bottom blue bar.
To learn more about a physician in the list, select their 'View Profile & Phone' link in their listing. This will open that http://img.webmd.com/dtmcms/live/webmd/consumer_assets which contains a variety of information about the physician including address and phone, education and training, and hospital and insurance affiliation.
On the home page of the directory, after you have entered a region to search in Step 1 and the physician's last name or their specialty in Step 2, select the 'More Search Options' button. Here you will find additional options to refine your search including limiting your physician search to those who accept your health insurance.
Helpful tools include:
If you are having trouble finding your physician, perform a statewide search with just the first two of letters of the physician's last name.
If for some reason your doctor is not on the list, please send us an email at FindAPhysician@webmd.net. Include the physician's name and practice phone number and a member of the WebMD customer service team will follow-up with his or her practice directly.
