Condoms have gone from behind the pharmacist's counter... To window displays. The aids crisis pushed them into the open, and now we have flavored, colored, even florescent condoms. Allergic to latex? Try polyurethane. We've been blitzed by the safe sex message. But how much do we really know?
Most people try to say they're like 99.9 percent effective, and that's not true.
But H-I-V counselor Robert Warren says condoms do make sex much safer... If you're educated.
Just because we have a condom doesn't mean we know how to use it also.
You'll need to check the expiration date and make sure the package isn't torn or damaged. And if you don't know how to put a condom on... And take it off... It won't work. Learn all of that before the moment of passion, and talk to your partner before then too.
You make the ground even. You don't put the blame... I don't what your sexual acts are. You don't know who I was with before. Let's just practice this so we can look out for each other.
Your partner may make excuses or feel uncomfortable discussing sexually transmitted disease.
The truth is they need to begin to form this habit of feeling comfortable, because this is a way of life now.
And if you're not comfortable talking about your health... Ask yourself, are you really ready for sex? For WebMD, I'm Sandee LaMotte.
