Atopic dermatitis is a skin condition that causes intense itching and then a red, raised rash. In severe cases, the rash develops bumps that look like little blisters.
For some people, atopic dermatitis may be a long-lasting (chronic) skin problem that requires more than one treatment. In infants, it usually affects the cheeks, the front of the knees, and the back of the elbows.
Atopic dermatitis is often called eczema or atopic eczema.
