    1. 1Make sure hair transplants are right for you. Talk with a hair transplant surgeon about your general health, what kind of hair loss you have, how fast you’re losing your hair, and what your hair restoration goals are.
    2. 2Do your research. Understand what happens with a hair transplant, which involves moving individual hair follicle units of one to a few hairs from one part of the head (usually the back) to the part that’s thinning or bald.
    3. 3Choose a hair transplant surgeon. Ask how many procedures they’ve done, get patient referrals, and look at before and after photos.
    4. 4Have realistic expectations. A hair transplant takes several hours to perform and it takes several months to see results. You may need additional surgeries down the road. And you may have to pay out of pocket if your insurance doesn’t cover it.
