Reducing Your Child's Fever From Chickenpox
If your child is uncomfortable because of a fever from chickenpox, you can have the child:
- Drink more water and juices. Children may enjoy sucking on ice chips or Popsicles.
- Take lukewarm sponge baths.
- Dress lightly and avoid wrapping up in warm blankets.
- Take medicine to reduce fever as needed. Acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) or ibuprofen (such as Advil) can help reduce fever. Follow the package instructions carefully. If you give medicine to your baby, follow your doctor’s advice about what amount to give. Do not give aspirin to anyone younger than 20 because of the risk of Reye syndrome.
