INTERVIEWER
Is everybody sleeping?

[MUSIC PLAYING]

I can't find anyone to talk about sleep. We only need seven to nine hours of sleep a night. Can you catch up on sleep? If you don't have enough sleep one night, can you catch-up the next night?

SUBJECT 1
No, I don't think so.

SUBJECT 2
You can't reverse what you already did.

INTERVIEWER
Can you sleep 10 hours on the weekend, and then average it all out?

SUBJECT 3
No. No.

INTERVIEWER
You can't really average sleep over time. It's really every day, we should try to get that seven to nine hours of sleep. Does your brain shut off at night? When we go to sleep, does our brain go to sleep?

SUBJECT 4
I would say mine doesn't.

SUBJECT 2
I feel like I'm dreaming, so kind of--

INTERVIEWER
Is it still working, then?

SUBJECT 2
Yeah. Probably, yeah.

SUBJECT 5
Well, I'm dreaming when I sleep, so I'm going to say it's false, that stays on.

SUBJECT 3
No, no it doesn't.

INTERVIEWER
[LAUGHS]

SUBJECT 3
No.

INTERVIEWER
You sure?

SUBJECT 3
I have dreams, right? Yeah. So--

INTERVIEWER
Doesn't shut off when we go to bed.

SUBJECT 3
Yeah.

INTERVIEWER
What position do you sleep in?

SUBJECT 1
I start on my side, and then my arm gets all tired because it hurts.

SUBJECT 4
I feel like I'm on my sides, usually. Yeah.

INTERVIEWER
Do you think that's the best position?

SUBJECT 4
Probably not, no. I wake up with jaw problems sometimes. Yeah.

SUBJECT 5
I sleep on my side curled up.

INTERVIEWER
OK, in the fetal position.

SUBJECT 5
Yeah, in your fetal position when I sleep, for sure.

INTERVIEWER
Actually, sleeping on the back as we get older is best because it keeps our spine and our neck kind of in that neutral position, so you might want to try that.

SUBJECT 6
OK.

SUBJECT 4
Back is best. I'm going to keep that in mind.

INTERVIEWER
Do you use an alarm?

SUBJECT 2
Yes.

INTERVIEWER
What kind of sound does that make?

SUBJECT 2
It's like a submarine sound.

SUBJECT 7
A light chime. Nothing too abrupt, nothing that's going to make me feel irritated when I get up in the morning.

SUBJECT 6
It's really annoying-- some stupid tune.

SUBJECT 2
Woo, woo, woo, woo. Woo, woo.

INTERVIEWER
Now, we really shouldn't use a jarring sound to wake up. You might want to try kind of a more gradual sound--

SUBJECT 6
Peaceful, ambient sound.

INTERVIEWER
There you go.

SUBJECT 6
OK, OK.

INTERVIEWER
There you go. Is it Hong Kong beep-beep or is it more like, woo--
