Sleep Disorders: Determining the Cause of Sleepwalking

Usually, the cause of sleepwalking can be determined by taking a medical history and physical exam to rule out a seizure disorder or other medical condition.

Your doctor may recommend a psychological evaluation to determine whether excessive stress or anxiety is causing you to sleepwalk. He or she may recommend an overnight sleep study in which you are observed throughout the night.
