Biography

Sonja Eva Singletary, MD, is a professor of surgical oncology at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. At M.D. Anderson, she previously served as chief of the Surgical Melanoma Section and chief of the Surgical Breast Cancer Section.

Singletary is the chairwoman of the American Joint Committee on Breast Cancer Task Force, which recently completed revisions to the staging system for breast cancer. She is also the 2003-2004 president-elect of the Society of Surgical Oncology. She served on the President's Cancer Panel, the Special Commission on Breast Cancer, under President George Bush (1992-1994).

Singletary has published 279 articles, 75 book chapters, and edited 15 books. She is editor-in-chief of Breast Diseases: A Year Book Quarterly, and is the breast section editor of the Annals of Surgical Oncology and Cancer.
