Theresa Defino has been a health care writer and investigative journalist for two decades. Her work has appeared in the Washington Post and in Medicine & Health and on other physician and consumer web sites, including Reuters Health, OnHealth, and IntelliHealth. Her investigative reporting on HMOs in Florida was honored by the state chapter of the American Medical Association. She has also worked for an academic medical center and its physician group, and for Aetna US Healthcare. She graduated from the University of Florida and resides outside Washington, D.C.
