NATUROPATHY Overview Information
Naturopathy is a whole system of alternative medicine that uses a wide variety of methods for diagnosing and treating many different medical conditions.
Naturopathy originated in Europe, but has gained popularity in North America, Australia, and other parts of the world. In many areas of North America, naturopathic physicians are recognized as licensed health professionals. Although there is no universal educational standard for naturopathy practitioners, in North America licensed naturopathic physicians obtain a four-year naturopathic doctor (ND) degree.
How does it work?
Naturopathy is a whole system of medicine that uses a variety of techniques and treatments to diagnose and treat medical conditions. Diagnostic approaches can include the usual laboratory tests and physical examinations, as well as alternative approaches such as pulse and tongue diagnosis and other methods. Treatments can include herbs and supplements, homeopathic products, physical medicine, psychological therapies, and many others.
In general, naturopathy practitioners believe in the importance of the healing power of nature and that treatments should enhance that healing power. They recognize the mind-body connection and take a holistic approach to medicine. They also emphasize preventive medicine.
