KINESIOLOGY Overview Information
Kinesiology is an alternative medicine system used to diagnose and treat medical conditions. It was developed by the chiropractor George Goodheart.
Kinesiology is used to treat learning disabilities, breast pain (mastalgia), and other conditions.
How does it work?
Kinesiology is an alternative medicine system used to diagnose and treat conditions. It is based on the belief that build-up of toxins around muscles results in weakness in that area. By identifying muscle weakness, the practitioner is able to identify areas of disease. However, there is no reliable scientific evidence that kinesiology is an accurate indicator of medical conditions or disease.
Likely Ineffective for:
- Disease diagnosis. Some research shows that kinesiology does not reliably identify or diagnose disease.
- Learning disabilities. There is some evidence that “educational kinesiology” might improve perceptual motor skills in children with learning disabilities. This type of kinesiology uses specific movements in an attempt to stimulate different areas of the brain in order to improve mental activity.
- Breast pain (mastalgia). There is some evidence that kinesiology treatments might reduce breast pain in women with this problem.
- Other conditions.
KINESIOLOGY Side Effects & Safety
There are no known safety concerns. However, kinesiology should not be relied on to identify or diagnose medical conditions in place of modern diagnostic techniques.
Special Precautions & Warnings:Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Not enough is known about the use of kinesiology during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use.
The appropriate or safe use of kinesiology depends on several factors such as the condition being treated or the person administering the treatment. Be sure to seek and follow relevant directions from your physician or other healthcare professional before using this treatment.
