Was diagnosed with high BP approximately 10 years ago and was prescribed several different types of meds and finally got up to Diovan and HCTZ. Due to all of the side effects from all the meds, I swithed...took a chance, tried Hawthorne Berries 565MG twice per day and noticed results within a week. BP is now down to 120/70 with no side effects. Natural, worked for me but it may not be for every...

At 65, overnight I developed hypertension to my utter bewilderment!! I do everything right in terms of sleep, diet, and lifestyle - optimal even stress reduction and zip. I am very sceptical of pharmaceutical anti-hypertensives. I am a psychologist and nutritionist. I have also studied herbal medicine over the past year and in my desperation (utter) with lethal 155/90 kicked myself for forgetting about the herbals !!!! I checked my references - in-depth because different cardiotonic herbs work differently in different people. Hawthorn seemed appropriate for me. Yesterday I measured my BP it was 157/85. I bought the Hawthorn tablets. I took one this morning and not last night in case I had an adverse reaction and could get help pronto. Six hours later I checked my BP on an empty stomach, fasted and dehydrated (oops) it was 143/82. Then I tested (I am a scientist evidence-based holistic nutritionist) myself after a meal of slice of lean chicken, tomato, avo, cucumber (all potent potassium foods) waiting one hour: 130/73. To say I am thrilled is beyond words - I have my life back. This shows how powerful Hawthorn may be for you too, together with potassium from vegetables principally, and low sugar fruits, some nuts and seeds, water, complex whole grain bread, and lean grass-fed animal protein in a low sodium diet (less than 1500mg/day from all sources). NB sodium in baking powder based foods, bread, some vitamin pills, condiments all add up to tipping us over the 1500mg. Ensure you buy a reputable brand - things are very lax in the USA, not so in Australia -ensure there are no fillers or crap mixed in; but better still, check with your pharmacist or naturopath about the right brand and dosage. I buy Australian Caruso's Hawthorn 800mg. Sleep, daily exercise (you know what this means!) hydration, enough salt but not too much, no packaged frozen dinners, read the labels, eat a fresh daily diet as far as possible and with veg (not fried) at every meal. I hope this helps you as it has helped me. Hypertension is lethal, anything over 120/80 is a risk factor for stroke/heart attack. If you are already on antihypertensives check with your doctor or better still go to a registered functional medicine doctor or a naturopath (degree qualified). You may wonder why the excitement after only 8 hours of taking the tab? Because I did not expect it to be so positive; I was expecting it would take a few days or more to kick in. It can take up to 12 days in some cases - but that would depend not only on the individual's constitution but also the quality of the brand and the dosage. A naturopath can suggest other suitable cardio herbs for your specific needs. Best wishesRead More Read Less

Herb Farm Hawthorn Blend has not given me any noticeable change over the six months I have been taking it (according to suggested use of three droppers a day) except I recently realized it is making my eyes sting and get bloodshot. When I quit taking it my eyes clear up so I quit taking it.

Sounds silly, but I was asleep and heard a voice say that I should take hawthorn berry. I woke up and looked it up and it said it was good for Congestive Heart Failure. My mother and both aunts died of CHF. I immediately started taking it and it has helped my BP for sure. Have to let time tell me about the CHF.

I took this for a few months then out of the blue I started having bad palpitations. It was very scary, I did more research and it took a while to figure out it was the hawthorne. It doesn't seem to be listed anywhere as this being a potential issue or side effect. It took reading other peoples experience to figure out what was happening. I quit taking it and my symptoms resolved themselves.

My Naturopathic Doctor prescribed a BP supplement that has Hawthorne as the main ingredient. It does lower my BP but not significantly. It does cause me to have heart pain if I take a full dose for more than a few days but that may be because I use it with Hydrochlorothiazide. So why do I continue to take it ? It helps dramatically with my memory problems or I What I believe is signs of dementia. I know it’s the Hawthorne because during the Covid pandemic I ran out and couldn’t get it for a-few months and all my memory problems came back worse than ever. Very scary indeed. Finally got my supplement and within a week or 2 it improved. Yes I do forget and lose things but only occasionally instead of constantly. So yes I will continue to take Hawthorne. I started taking hawthorn tea to help with my mildly elevated blood pressure. I was surprised when I realized that it also significantly lowered by social anxiety. That was fantastic. However, I had to stop drinking it. My legs ached terribly. By the third day (third cup of tea) my legs were aching so deeply that I was in tears. It has been four days of no tea, my legs are much better but I still have general pains that I did not have before trying it. Just my personal experience but as much as I loved actually being 'normal' out with other people the pain was too much and I was worried about why it would cause pain at all. I was drinking Traditional Medicinals organic Hawthorn / Hibiscus.Read More Read Less

I’m a 76 year old female that has been on every Blood Pressure medicine I think known to man, all with terrible site effects. I found Hawthorn on the internet and have found the one for me. I take three pills a day and play 18 holes of golf. My last visit to my GP I thought she was going to jump up and down 125/72, normal had been 170/80. I live in KC so a natural path is hard to come by here. The last cardiologist I went to told me I was going to die, he wanted to give me a pill that had so many bad side effects that Walgreens didn’t even stock it. Great guy. Hawthorn has given me a new lease on life!Read More Read Less

High BP for years, even with blockers. I buy bulk berries and make a tea. It took a month to 6wks, BP came down from 180/102 to 127/74. Doc asked me what I was doing different. I told him and all I got was a Hugh! It takes at least a month of use.

I have mitral valve prolapse and recently noticed my palpitations had increased and feeling a bit more tight chested. I did some research and commenced hawthorn drops about ten days ago. Unsure if coincidental but heart symptoms most definitely improved. My only concern is I have got persistent achey legs and appear to have a slight muscle weakness to my left hand. Is this a coincidence? Has anyone else found this please? Don’t want to stop the hawthorn if possible. Thanks

For me no side effects, but it took about 2 weeks before I have seen any results. It lowered my systolic by about 10 points. I take it twice a day.

I have been on low dose, 12.5 mgs metoprolol, which did nothing for spikes from stress. My cardiologist said would help. I take 300 mgs Hawthorne on days I know will be stressed or if I get stressed. Works, unlike metoprolol. I take the NOW brand.

With so many reviews I wanted to try this before I was put on BP meds. I started having severe almost constant heart palpitations after a month or so of taking this. Took a bit of research to find this could cause this. Within a week of stopping the palpations resolved themselves. Very scary because I thought this was a safe supplement but turned out to be not that at all. Be very careful.

I apologize for using this rating space, but there is no space to ask a question. How can this herb both decrease and increase congestive heart failure, in different studies? Doesn't WebMD check the studies when two opposite sets of results are obtained?

took soloray hawthorne tablets for a month no change. then switched to NOW hawthorne for 2 weeks no change finally tried Natures Way Hawthorne and I took a double dose 6 pills per day . did not work. Prescription Valstartin works. Not a big fan of prescription drugs ,but High blood can kill you so IMO go with something that works Valsartin works for me.

Recommended by my brother who had success lowering his BP. After taking Hawthorn Berries 565 mg 3 times a day, my BP numbers went down substantially. Also, no side effects from Hawthorn and I noticed some weight lost after discontinuing the prescription medication. Praise God!
