I began using different combinations of Glucosamine (with and without Chondroitin/MSM, shellfish versus shellfish-free) for at least the last 20 years. I first began taking it sporadically due to cartilage breakdown in my knee and had great pain relief in my early 20's. I have hip pain. The GS definitely has helped.Stopped taking - hip discomfort slowly returned. HCl version did not help. Chondroitin added appeared to increase blood pressure. Use pure glucosamine sulfate

It has relieved quite a bit, but not all, of the pain I was having with hip and back arthritis
