I was taking Flomax, an Rx and wanted to get on something non-perscrip. I have been using the Beta Sitosterol for over a year now and am very pleased. No more night trips to the bathroom. Also, no undesired side effects.

I had high hopes for "NOW" brand Clinical Strength Prostate Health supplement soft gels as it they have 850 mg Beta Sisterol because of the very good WebMD User Reviews, and I'm glad they're helping some people. But I have to say I got ZERO benefit from them, even taking 3 per day as instructed. They made no difference to my symptoms whatever, after six weeks taking them.

I was getting up between 3 and 4 times a night and had leaking due to an enlarged prostate. I had used Flowmax before, but did not want to go back on any prescriptions. I started taking Beta-Sitosterol and within a week I was down to only one trip a night and the leakage had stopped as well. It has also improved the urine stream as well which helps with emptying the bladder better. Overall, this has worked well for me.

Now iny 70s I've been using beta sitosterol for 20 years. It has helped with symptoms but as time has gone by my condition has worsened and it's not helping as much as it used to. I continue to take because its also helpful for cholesterol. I recently added pygeum which really helped improve my condition with one major drawback. It seemed to disrupt my heart rhythm. To such an extent I have now stopped talking it. 126mg a day. If and when my heart settles down I may try again with just 50 mg. Otherwise the side effects of pygeum for me are too scary.Read More Read Less

I was put on Tamulosin and Finasteride for BPH by my urologist. While I did get some relief from these 2 prescription drugs, I discontinued after about 6 weeks for 2 reasons: These drugs caused ED, and testicular pain. These symptoms caused by Tamulosin and Finasteride quit after I quit taking them. So, I went on 850 mg Beta Sisterol, along with saw Palmetto and a couple other herbs. The Beta Sisterol is vastly superior to these 2 drugs..more effective and fewer side effects. Unfortunately, many "prostate" supplements only have 200 mg, or even less of Beta Sisterol. Those are only minimally effective, I need 850 mg beta sisterol for best results. I highly recommend Beta Sisterol for prostate issues, and I think it even helps with some arthritis/joint pain, which also disappeared within only about a week of starting 850mg beta Sisterol. I used "NOW" brand Clinical Strength Prostate Health. I do recommend NOW brand Clinical Strength, as it has 850 mg Beta Sisterol. Read More Read Less

I had leakage after urinating.......got my pants wet. This stopped the leak. Also, don't need to urinate every time I stand up. I will say it worked for me. I take one Swanson 160mg pill in the morning with water. I have a cup of coffee soon after......not that it matters. I have been on it for about 3 weeks.

When I first started using this supplement about 11 months ago, I clearly noticed improved flow and some nights I did not have to wake up to urinate. My PSA went down from 12.9 to 9.2. I have enlarged prostate same as my father and uncle. I am now 66 years and have been using other supplements such as saw palmetto, zinc and stinging nettle...etc. these supplements did not reduce my PSA except when I introduced Beta Sitosterol supplements. Therefore I believe it benefitted me but recently I have had urine retention and I had to put in a catheter to relieve myself. My urologist is planning some tests and will see what comes up. After less than two days taking one 60 mg capsule twice daily with a fat containing meal, I slept all night without having to get up to use the restroom. My urine stream has been continuous and steady. I also have felt a calm and peace since beginning these. The anxiety and foggy feeling I have felt is gone. I have not had any negative side effects so far but it’s just been about two days. I am amazed at how quickly symptoms have changed. I wish I had tried these years ago.

It's worth bearing in mind that Beta Sitosterol is about 26% soluble in fat, negligbly soluble in alcohol, and not at all soluble in water. Thus, taking it with a glass of water virtually guarantees there will be no effectiveness whatsoever. Taking it "preferably with a meal" is at best a half-hearted acknowledgement that a high quantity of fatty food must accompany the dose to result in even a moderate amount of absorption. Furthermore, a minimum of twice the recommended dose is needed. Laboratory studies validating the effectiveness of Beta Sitosterol in shrinking prostate tissues were based on 1,000 - 2,000 Mg dosages. Beta Sitoserol has been the preferred prescription medication for treating BPH in Euorpe for two decades based on similar dosages. Of course, Beta Sistosterol is not a prescription medication in the U.S., due to opposition from pharmaceutical companies pushing their own expensive drugs, which, interestingly, have been shown in laboratory studies to have identical effects to Beta Sitosterol. Worse, some medical information websites obfuscate these facts in favor of so-called "good studies" based on nothing more than survey questions answered by volunteers under uncontrolled circumstances. Some websites go so far as to erroneously assert that "surgery is the preferred treatment for enlarged prostate," despite numerous studies proving that such surgery does not prolong life nor adequately treat symptoms. Bottom line: Consider taking a maximum-strength forumlation of Beta Sitosterol two to three times a day with fat, e.g., whole milk, a fatty fish such as salmon or tuna, or peanut butter and canola oil (rich natural sources). The results might amaze you. As a pharmcologist I have no invested interest in the controversy, other than the fact that since I turned 71, I began to experience BPH symptoms. I've used prescription medications, which did have an effect on urinary symptoms used in conjunction with Saw Palmetto and Lycopene, but also produced intolerable side effects, such as occassionally collapsing when attempting to stand. As a result, I tried taking Saw Palmetto Extract only. I recently began using a pure 250 Mg Beta Sitosterol supplement, once at 2PM and twice at dinner, always with fatty food. After three days, the worst symptoms have improved noticeably, which, for me, has been a great relief.Read More Read Less

I get a sudden URGENT feeling that I have to pee and can barely hold it. This is very annoying because it comes out of no where with no warning. Im 40 yr old and this has been happening on and off for a few years but got worse recently. Anyhow I learned about this chemical and went out and bought canola oil. In just 1 day I can already tell a huge difference. This is DEFINITELY not just a placebo effect. Now I get a small feeling that I have to pee and it goes away. Before this would be a sudden huge URGENT feeling making you run to the toilet right away.Read More Read Less

A friend recommended this to me when my PSA was elevated. I have BPH, also. I took it for 6 months faithfully. Next blood test, PSA had gone up even more. I actually don't have any BPH symptoms. I stopped taking it. Strangely, I noticed a dull, persistent ache in my liver area went away, which made me wonder if it was the Beta Sitosterol causing the curious liver pain. Anyway, I really wanted it to work, but it didn't for me.

For a long time I tried a variety of supplements, like saw palmetto and stinging nettles, but saw little to no change. Within a week or two of starting beta sitosterol, there was a very clear difference in both the way I felt (no more pinching sensation) and the function of my urogenital system (no more blockage). Given the lack of results of supplements I took in the past, I've been skeptical about them, but this one works for me.

I am a 76 year old male with BPH. I began taking beta-sitosterol -1000mg daily about 2 months ago and the results are very good - fewer bathroom visits and much less discomfort overall.

Nighttime trips to the bathroom are down from 3 or 4 to once or none at all! I looked up the ingredients in Super Beta Prostate, and fond that it's MUCH less expensive (and just as effective) to take the same supplements - Beta Sitosterol, Selenium, Zinc
