I have found goldenseal to be much more effective than drugs I have been prescribed for chronic bronchitis and pneumonia. Like echinacea, it should NOT be used for more than 2 weeks. I notice one critical SIDE EFFECT is not listed here - it can cause contractions of the womb, so DEFINITELY should not be used during pregnancy. It is only available by prescription in Europe.

I have not taken antibiotics for over 25 years. Instead I take Goldenseal with Echanesia when antibiotics would be indicated, using 3 to 4 times a day for 5 to 7 days as one would antibiotics. ANY infection I have had, viral or bacterial, how do I know or care... Goldenseal works for me.
