About Vivelle-Dot:
Vivelle-Dot: The #1 Prescribed Estrogen Therapy Patch*
Experience Vivelle-Dot As Part of Your Menopause Journey
The Vivelle-Dot ® patch delivers a consistent flow of estradiol to help control the moderate to severe hot flashes, night sweats and vaginal dryness and atrophy associated with menopause. Vivelle-Dot also reduces your risk of postmenopausal osteoporosis (thin, weak bones). If you are considering using Vivelle-Dot to only prevent osteoporosis from menopause, talk with your healthcare professional about whether a different treatment or medicine without estrogens might be better for you.
So what's so special about Vivelle-Dot?
- Transdermal difference – Transdermals achieve therapeutic levels with smaller doses compared to oral therapy. This does not mean that Vivelle-Dot is safer or more effective than estrogen pills.
- Size – Tiny, translucent and discreet – the smallest estrogen patch available.
- Dosing – Changed twice a week unlike the daily use of pills or topicals.
- Comfort – Designed to feel natural, to go where you go—during exercise, in the shower, in the pool.
- Estrogen source – For women interested in the source of estrogen in their therapy, the estrogen in Vivelle-Dot (estradiol) is chemically synthesized from a plant source. This does not mean that Vivelle-Dot is safer or more effective than other hormone therapies.
The Patch Difference
Vivelle-Dot achieves effective hormone levels with smaller total doses compared to pills. That's true in part because the estrogen in Vivelle-Dot passes directly through the skin and into your bloodstream, avoiding the digestive tract and liver metabolism. This does not mean that Vivelle-Dot is safer or more effective than estrogen pills.
You'll Hardly Notice It
Vivelle-Dot is the smallest estrogen therapy (ET) patch available today — about the size of a postage stamp. It's so small and thin, you probably won't notice that you're wearing it. Vivelle-Dot uses a patented technology that allows it to stay on even during bathing, swimming or exercise.
Your Estrogen Therapy Should Suit You
Unlike daily pills and topical ET treatments, you only need to change the Vivelle-Dot patch twice a week.
- There is a calendar printed on the inside cover of every box of Vivelle-Dot patches
- Mark the days you want to change the patch, such as Sunday/Wednesday, and then change your patch on those same two days every week
Vivelle-Dot is available in 5 different dosage strengths so that your healthcare professional can adjust the dose to meet your specific needs.
In addition, Vivelle-Dot uses a patented technology that allows it to stick with you — even while you're bathing, swimming or exercising. And Vivelle-Dot has a low incidence of skin irritation.
Vivelle-Dot is available by prescription only and is covered with a low copay by most healthcare plans. For more information, talk to your doctor.

All estrogen therapies carry risk. Estrogens increase the chances of getting cancer of the uterus (womb). You should report any unusual vaginal bleeding right away while you are taking estrogens. Vaginal bleeding after menopause may be a warning sign of cancer of the uterus (womb).
Do not use estrogens (with or without progestins) to prevent heart disease, heart attacks or strokes. Using estrogens (with or without progestins) may increase your chances of getting heart attacks, strokes, breast cancer and blood clots. Using estrogens may increase your risk of dementia (decline in memory and thinking skills).
Estrogen therapy should not be used if you:
- Have unusual vaginal bleeding
- Currently have or have had certain cancers, including cancer of the breast or uterus
- Had a stroke or heart attack in the recent past (for example, in the past year)
- Currently have or have had blood clots
- Currently have or have had liver problems
- May be pregnant
Common side effects of estrogen therapy include headache, breast pain, irregular vaginal bleeding, stomach cramps, bloating, nausea, vomiting and hair loss.
Before deciding if estrogen therapy is right for you, it's important to have a thorough discussion with your doctor about the individual risks and benefits of estrogen therapy. Dose and length of therapy will be based on your individual health risks and treatment goals.
