What are symptoms of type 1 spinal muscular atrophy (SMA)?

ANSWER

Symptoms vary greatly depending on the type of SMA:

Type 1 is the most severe. Your child may not be able to support their head or sit without help. Their arms and legs might flop and they may have trouble swallowing. Most children with this type don’t live past age 2 because of breathing problems.
